Build For Less: Part 1
Ever ask a builder to give you a ball-park square foot price on a new home? And how did they respond? It is hard to give construction prices without knowing all the variables.
There are three hi-level variables that you need to look at when building a house. Square Footage, Amenities, and Price. You can pick two and the third will be determined for you.
Most of us need to start with Price. The budget is usually set for us by our available cash and/or credit. So what do we pick next? Amenities or square footage? In the current economy many of us can only pick Price and the Amenities and Square Footage is nailed down tight. So, what can we do about it?
I don’t like the word compromise, so let’s use the words alternates and options. What alternates are there to make my home stand out without spending more? How can you fit what you need into a smaller space? How can you make a space do double duty? What amenities can you add with out costing any or much extra money?
In this series of post we will explore ways to save money on your building project and still give your home (or remodel) some extra feature you don’t find in most homes.
